Our campsite is located about 40 km from Girona, a city considered to be the cultural and administrative centre of the province that bears its name. As a lively and dynamic city, it will always surprise you with its rich cultural offer and the diversity of events organised throughout the year (Cavalcade des Rois, gastronomic week, Sant Jordi Festival, Temporada Alta theatre festival, etc.) and even a simple stroll through the old town will enchant you. Girona is one of the most historic places in Spain and has retained the charm of a medieval city thanks to its magnificent architecture and the old quarter surrounded by ancient walls (Barri Vell), but it also has relics of antiquity, including the Roman ruins of the Força Vella fortress.
The medieval ramparts of the Old Quarter can be seen walking along the “Paseo Arqueológico” (Archaeological Walk) and the “Paseo de las Murallas” (Wall Walk) where you will be spoilt by the magnificent views over the city offered by the observation towers. The historical interest of the latter is that it has been subject to various cultural and religious influences that are reflected today in the variety of its architecture. Don’t forget to admire the Romanesque and Gothic style of the Cathedral Sainte-Marie de Géron which overlooks the city, then travel back in time by going for a walk in the Jewish quarter (one of the best preserved of the medieval period in Europe) and finally stroll through the maze of narrow cobbled streets of the old town where artisan shops and small gourmet restaurants are located: it will be an opportunity for you to get to know the local life and culture in complete serenity!
