Tossa de Mar is a small fishing village nestled in the forest-covered mountains. It is one of the few seaside villages where the forest drops down to the sea.
Opting for a vacation rental in Tossa means enjoying the Mediterranean coastline, its coves, cliffs and excursions located in the vicinity such as Cap Creus, Empuriabrava.
The upper town, which is the historical city, is built behind massive walls, dating from the Middle Ages, built between the 12th and 15th centuries.
They allow a beautiful view of the sea and the lower city, with its much more stretched urbanism.
Tossa de Mar is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts on the southern Costa Brava. It is of pre-Roman origin, but the Iberians, who lived there long before the arrival of the Romans, have left their mark.

Tossa de Mar: history and heritage

Typical of the Catalan coastal towns, Tossa owes its true economic prosperity to the exploitation of cork, wine and fishing. But today, Tossa is essentially a tourist town, with its hotels, restaurants and lively and happy nightlife. Its very famous and very convivial carnival allows the inhabitants to put themselves on stage: in burlesque style, it forms a huge procession to go to bury the Sardine, the high point of this popular festival.
For lovers of archeology or modern art, be sure to visit the municipal museum housed in a medieval house overlooking the rocky cove. You can admire Roman mosaics, Neolithic objects, ceramics, coins that have been discovered in Tossa or its surroundings. You will also admire works by Chagall, who stayed in Tossa in 1933, Klein and Georges Kars.

Do you like idleness? For your holidays in Spain on the shores of the Mediterranean, let yourself be seduced by the many beaches such as Santa Cristina.
You can enjoy three beautiful beaches, Tossa beach, in front of the city center from where you can see the medieval castle, it is the longest beach and deepest in the city.
On the other side of the bay, also discover the beach of Mar Ménuda, smaller but well supervised, and offering many services to holidaymakers, in particular the rental of sports equipment. El Codolar beach is located behind medieval walls.

  • The Roman Villa of Els Ametllers, (1st century BC – 6th century AD), discovered in 1914, is one of the most important patrician villas in the ancient province of Tarraco, which will fascinate children and tall.
  • Go and discover by the coastal road of the creeks, towards San Feliu de Guixols, the wonderful Cala Futadera and Cala Giverola!
